Clerkenwell Fire Station was the UK's oldest until it was closed down 2014. AMA provided an options appraisal to convert this grade 2* Arts & crafts building into flats and build new units in the yard behind with community use on the ground floor. Islington council has been awarded a grant to buy the building and start the process of delivering a significanty amount of social housing for the borough. The exercise was particularly challenging as there was limited information to work from which meant that we had to make assumptions from our experience concerning structural alterations required to convert the existing layout into flats.
